About

I’m Atul — अतुल — a Sanskrit name meaning incomparable or infinite.

I live in these worlds:

  • mathematics tutor, lighting up young minds with abstract patterns and structure
  • singer, channelling the sound of rock with voice and guitar
  • blogger, capturing my fleeting thoughts with words
  • dancer, living for that special tanda where the world disappears

I started learning Argentine tango in March 2019 in London. My real learning took place in 2024 and 2025 in Buenos Aires with maestra Noelia Coletti and practice partner Vicky Ramirez.

Why Tango Stillness?

My uncle in India flew on an aeroplane for the first time at the age of seventy. He told me how, after the loud engine take-off, the plane suddenly became still — floating, suspended in an almost otherworldly calm.

That’s where tango lives for me, in the stillness inside motion, the movement and pause, the storm and the mountain, and everything in between.

This blog is where I reflect on the many twists and turns of my journey. On learning, on the cities and milongas I dance at and the events in my life that have shaped my tango.
